Rental Agreement

Please read this agreement carefully before your hire begins. A signed copy will be provided and explained at vehicle handover.

Please note: This is a draft agreement for reference. The finalised agreement will be provided by Travelway at the time of booking and signed at vehicle handover. If you have any questions, please get in touch before your hire begins.

1. Parties

This agreement is between Travelway Motorhome Hire ("the Owner") and the person named as the primary hirer on the booking confirmation ("the Hirer"). By accepting this agreement the Hirer agrees to the terms set out below on behalf of themselves and all passengers travelling in the motorhome.

2. Hire period and vehicle

The hire period begins at the agreed pickup time and ends at the agreed return time, both as confirmed in the booking. The vehicle hired is the motorhome specified in the booking confirmation. Early collection or late return may incur additional charges unless agreed in advance.

3. Driver requirements

All drivers must:

  • Hold a current and valid full driver's licence for the class of vehicle being driven
  • Be at least 25 years of age
  • Have held their licence for a minimum of two years
  • Be named on this agreement prior to driving the vehicle

International drivers must carry a translation of their licence if it is not in English, or hold an International Driving Permit. Overseas licences are valid in New Zealand for up to 12 months from the date of entry.

4. Bond and payment

A security bond of $2,500 NZD is required and will be held against the Hirer's credit card at the time of pickup. The bond will be released within 7 business days of vehicle return, provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as collected, with no damage, missing inventory, or outstanding costs.

Full payment of the hire fee is due no later than 14 days prior to the hire start date. Bookings made within 14 days of the hire start date require full payment at the time of booking.

5. Cancellation policy

  • More than 60 days before pickup: Full refund minus a $150 administration fee
  • 30–60 days before pickup: 50% of the total hire fee is forfeited
  • Less than 30 days before pickup: 100% of the total hire fee is forfeited

Travelway strongly recommends arranging travel insurance to cover cancellation costs.

6. Insurance and liability

Standard insurance is included with every hire and covers third-party liability and collision damage subject to an excess of $2,500. The Hirer is responsible for the full excess amount in the event of any claim.

Insurance does not cover:

  • Damage caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Damage to the underside of the vehicle, roof, or awning from overhead obstacles or unsealed roads
  • Tyre damage or punctures
  • Loss or theft of personal belongings
  • Damage caused by failure to follow the operator's instructions

7. Use of the vehicle

The Hirer agrees to:

  • Use the vehicle only on sealed roads unless prior written consent has been obtained from the Owner
  • Comply with all New Zealand road rules and traffic legislation
  • Not drive the vehicle onto beaches, river crossings, or any terrain for which it is not suited
  • Not sublet or transfer the vehicle to any third party
  • Not use the vehicle for any commercial purpose
  • Not smoke inside the vehicle — a cleaning fee of $350 applies if evidence of smoking is found
  • Keep the number of occupants to the vehicle's certified capacity at all times

8. Pets

Pets are permitted in the vehicle with prior approval from the Owner. The Hirer is responsible for any damage caused by a pet. A standard cleaning fee of $150 applies to all bookings where a pet has been in the vehicle.

9. Fuel and LPG

The vehicle will be provided with a full fuel tank and full LPG bottles. The Hirer is responsible for refuelling during the hire period. The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of diesel. If the fuel tank is not full on return, the Owner will charge the cost of refuelling plus a $30 service fee.

10. Breakdown and emergencies

24/7 roadside assistance is included with every hire. In the event of a breakdown or emergency, the Hirer must contact Travelway immediately on +64 274 767 067. The Hirer must not authorise any repairs without prior approval from the Owner. Unauthorised repair costs will not be reimbursed.

11. Return of the vehicle

The vehicle must be returned at the agreed time and location in a clean and tidy condition, with all inventory items present. The following charges may apply on return:

  • Excess cleaning: from $150 depending on condition
  • Missing or damaged inventory items: at replacement cost
  • Late return without prior notice: $100 per hour
  • Cassette toilet not emptied and cleaned: $75

12. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
